Dorset Climate Change Coalition

Climate Change is now widely recognised as the most important challenge facing the world this century.

There are many voluntary and public sector organisations in Dorset whose aims coincide with each other, with respect to reducing Dorset’s impact on climate change.

A Dorset Climate Change Coalition (DCCC) was a project bringing together partner organisations in order to present a more effective and coherent voice to communicate this message to the people of Dorset. The emphasis of this message is on mitigating the extent of climate change, by focussing on reducing CO2 emissions.

The West Dorset Climate Change Strategy

West Dorset's new Climate Change Strategy has been launched.
It aims to help residents, businesses and other organisations reduce their carbon emissions by 30% by 2020 from 2005 levels.

Carbon dioxide gases (CO2) are released whenever we use energy like electricity, gas or fuel for transport. These gases form a blanket around the earth, trapping heat. This is called the 'Greenhouse Effect' and it is causing our climate to warm-up.

North Dorset Green Map

This map was developed by Dorset Agenda 21, North Dorset District Council , The DT11 Forum and London based social enterprise Mapping for Change (who are developing similar maps in other parts of the UK).

To find a project you can zoom in (use the controls on the top left of the map) and click on the icon you want to know about. A box will appear with full details - some include photos. You can also search the map, and you can turn any of the sets of icons on and off by ticking the box next to the icon.
