Upcoming County Council elections - views from local parties on fracking

FrackFreeDorset have written to parties fielding candidates in the May County Council elections, requesting a policy statement on the issue of unconventional gas exploitation (fracking) in Dorset. ( see attached 'Policy Request' document)
 
FrackFreeDorset is a growing coalition of groups and individuals opposed to the unconventional extraction of oil and gas from shale by the process of hydraulic fracturing (fracking).

Bridport Transition Skills workshop for unemployed

BTS ran its third skills course for unemployed youngsters - a week covering woodwork, metalwork, electrics and plumbing, culminating in making a lamp to take home. Many Thanks to John Johnston from Harbour Bonfield, Terry McCormack from GR Edwardes, and Robert Golden, who provided excellent advice to the trainees on the next steps to finding suitable work and developing their skills. As Robert Golden told the trainees, “it’s not your fault there are no jobs. What you still have is your culture and your creativity, and developing this is your most important task”

Let's go green! - Young people and green groups get together

Young people at Durweston and Charlton Down Youth Clubs partied the night away on a Solar Powered Disco as part of an series of evening events to encourage young people to take an active interest in the environment.

Dorset's minerals core strategy submitted formally to the Planning Inspectorate

Following consultation the Minerals Core Strategy for Dorset has now been formally submitted to the Planning Inspectorate. An independant examination will be conducted likely to take place in May 2013. Further details about the hearing sessions will be made available once a date has been confirmed.

Inaugural Frack Free Dorset meeting held

 Frack Free Dorset, a non-political coalition of concerned individuals was formed last week to raise public awareness about the dangers which may occur if ‘fracking’ comes to Dorset. The group was launched at a meeting on Tues 15th Jan 2013 at the United Church in Dorchester.

TT Dorchester learns about Transition Streets project

Participants from Transition Town Dorchester learnt about the Transition Streets project; with facilitators from Transition Towns sharing their experience on setting up a Transition Streets project; propogating the idea; and engaging with the community. The attendees were given a pack of resources, the idea being to facilitate groups in Dorchester and the surrounding area and using the information for them to guide themselves through a seven stage programme looking at energy, waste, transport and other aspects of environmentally friendly living.
