Is our impact on the planet the sign of a serious fracture in mans relationship to his environment, reflected in his relatonship with the earth, fellow humans and most importantly himself? This and similar, rather esoteric questions, are the subject of a number of events in Dorset over the next few weeks exploring such inner psychological issues.
Whilst some may dismiss such inner contemplation as at best a waste of time and energy, at worst a distraction from the engineering of solutions that needs to be undertaken, many have found that considering moving toward a more sustainable way of life to bring up more than what bin to put the recycling in. The Transition Town movement has recognised this, and many towns have a 'heart and soul group' addressing these concerns as they emerge in individuals and the group as a whole.
It starts with a lecture on the 9th December starting at 7pm at the Marsh Barn, West Bay. Dr Paul Stevens from Bournemouth Unviersity will be giving us an overview of the concepts behind ecopsychology, and the practical application of the ideas.
Then on Sunday 11th December, two Dorset Transition Town members, Emma Piers and Jo Lowndes will be running a workshop based on the ideas of Joanna Macey, titled 'the work that reconnects'. The seminar is free, requiring a £10 returnable deposit.
So a time of contemplation, perhaps fitting fo the time of year. For more details on these events and other such issues, please contact the da21 office in the usual way.
