Our vision is a world where sustainability is second nature, carbon emissions have been cut to safe levels and fuel poverty has been replaced by energy justice.
Our mission is to share our knowledge and practical experience to empower people to change the way they think and act about energy
We do this by giving advice, managing innovative energy projects, training others to act, and undertaking research and policy analysis.
At any one time we have between 50 and 60 different and separately funded projects under way. All of these are helping people and communities to meet real needs for both environmentally sound and affordable energy services. Read about some of our best projects here.
We are based in Bristol although much of our work has relevance and impact across the UK. Our clients and funders include national, regional and local government and associated agencies, energy companies and charitable sources. We are also a founder member of the charity-owned joint venture, Energy Advice South West Ltd, which manages the South West Energy Saving Trust advice centre.
CSE is an independent national charitable company that was initiated in 1979.
CSE has been developing effective solutions to climate change and the misery of cold homes since 1979. Our experience shows that engaging people and communities is as fundamental to success as technical rigour. It also highlights the importance of developing solutions which are based on sound evidence built on robust research. CSE brings together an in-depth understanding of UK and international energy policy with strong practical experience of delivering technically robust local and regional initiatives. Our people have a range of different skills and specialisms including: * technical and engineering * community engagement * advice provision * insulation-scheme management * training and education * research and data analysis (including GIS) * energy policy * planning * marketing and communications This enables us to form multi-disciplinary project teams which meet the needs of our different clients and funders. CSE has strong project management capabilities and robust quality management systems and can back this up with effective IT and administrative support capabilities. We have a highly qualified workforce (nearly all our staff have a higher education degree, the majority in energy or environmental sciences) and provide all staff with a range of training opportunities appropriate to the organisations and their own development needs.
