To provide an exemplar of intelligent adaptation to the worldís environmental, social and economic changes, a place where a diverse range of people can come to learn and share practical skills in sustainable living as well as benefit from creative expression and personal development in a beautiful rural setting.
Our focus on progressive, land-centred education dates back to the establishment of the Monkton Wyld School in 1940, and has continued in various forms within the consensus-led intentional community formed in 1982.
Through the educational charity, agriculture and land management, as well as through continued conscious efforts to live sustainably and responsibly here, we strive to carry on this important work. Our residential course programme ranges from beekeeping to yoga, and family week holidays with themes like bushcraft and fossiling are especially popular with fans of all ages.
The land, buildings and other resources are available to the local community and those further afield for educational and recreational activities. Our Steiner-focused kindergarten continues to develop, offering an educational opportunity unique in the area.
MWC supports micro-economies by renting out workshop space, sharing resources, contributing to the Local Exchange Trading System and supporting local food and farming co-operatives. We contribute to the areaís social and cultural calendar with regular and one-off day and evening events.
