Blandford Forum Transition Town & dt11 Green Group

A Transition Town based in Blandford Forum

A small transition towns group has now formed in Blandford - and we have met a few times - building on the work of the long established dt11 (local commuity partnership for Blandford and its hinterland) Green Group. This Group has organised lots of activities , including a number of Green Weeks which have taken place in the town and surrounding area, the lastest being in June of this year (2011). Many thanks to Carrie Lewis for chairing and driving the work of this group - who has recently stepped down.

We plan to put on a film screening - probably of Transition 1.0 on 13th October in the Parish Hall opposite the Library. There are about 4 of us at the moment - and we could do with a few more helpers! Please get in touch, it realyl is pretty informal at the moment, althrough we have done somethings like a presentation to the Town Council who are broadly supportive of our initative.

Child Okeford Sustainability Initative

A Community Group

The Child Okeford Sustainability Initiative comprises people living in Child Okeford and Farrington who are
concerned that the twin threats of environmental change and peak oil will affect our way of life and who
are seeking local solutions to minimise that change.

The initiative is part of a loose grouping of other green organizations in North Dorset.

The purpose of COSI is to:

• Find out how important environmental issues are to local villagers
• Identify areas of particular concern to villagers
• Facilitate access to projects that address these concerns
• Identify funding sources
• Encourage participation in projects and events which tackle various aspects of environmental
change both in the local and wider area
• Promote a greater sense of community
• Make links with other like-minded organizations

Purbeck Environmental Action Team (PEAT)

PEAT aims to: (1) Raise public awareness and understanding about sustainability (2) Support or initiate projects which demonstrate sustainability (3) Influence decision makers to take sustainability into account throughout their decision making As part of DA21 we share the definition of sustainable development as : “development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs”

Thorncombe Transition Village

A Transition Town based in Dorset

Coming together as a community, we can address the two great issues of our time: a changing climate and declining oil production. Our aim is to find ways of reducing energy use in all aspects of our lives: • Transport • Waste – reduce, reuse, recycle • Food • Health • Education • Energy • Local industry • Gardening/growing

Transition BH

A Transition Town

On the 11th of December 2008, 24 people in a pub in Parkstone met and agreed to form a Transition Towns “Temporary Initiating Hub.” This social network will connect all the local Transition activities that happen within the BH postcode area.

Transition Town Bridport

A Transition Town based in Bridport

Our mission is to generate a sustainable lifestyle in Bridport and the surrounding region by becoming as self-sufficient as possible, whilst remembering we're part of a global community.

Transition Town Christchurch

A Transition Town

The challenges presented to us today by global warming and diminishing oil and gas supplies (peak oil) are great. However, this time also brings a great opportunity for rethinking our environment here in Christchurch and making conscious choices about what kind of community (and world) we would like to live in.

Transition Town Christchurch is one of the local Transition Towns initiatives operating in Dorset and the New Forest area of the UK. Our simple aim is to encourage those who live and work here to:

Take responsibility for ourselves as a community.

Produce locally more of the food, energy and other goods we consume to create a bright, resilient and sustainable future for all.

We are determined to have a future which both meets our needs but also nurtures the planet, rather than harming it. You can be part of that - please browse our website and get in touch or come to an event.

Transition Town Dorchester

A Transition Town

- To prepare Dorchester and the surrounding villages for the effects of peak oil and climate change. - To promote sustainable long-term solutions to local social and economic problems that arise.

Transition Town Sherborne

A Transition Town

Transition Sherborne Area (a transition town in West Dorset) is positively committed to tackling the twin challenges of climate change and fossil fuel depletion at the community level. At its heart, the transition process conveys that, with the right approach, a world beyond peak oil can be better than the one we find ourselves in today. We aim to do this by exploring and living in more sustainable, less carbon intensive and healthier ways. We are engaging our community (Sherborne town and the surrounding area) in dialogue, holding a number of events and exploring local solutions to the challenges we all face.

Transition is fluid! It is about local people doing local things.

The general aim behind the Transition Movement is to provide a local response to the twin issues of Oil Scarcity and Climate Change, while building Resilience – three topics that are likely to have a major impact on our lives this century.
